Atomic Pi eats other Pis for lunch
| SBC – Single Board computer market is popular amongst hobbyists and DIY specialists. Raspberry Pi made a storm when it was launched. There are many similar Pis like Banana Pi, BeagleBone Black etc.. However one thing common in all these Pis are their processors based ARM architecture.
Recently Raspberry Pi launched their fourth version Pi 4 with decent specs.
Digital loggers had come up with Intel based processor “Atom” for SBC
It has good specs to make good usecases for demo purposes with little budget
The Atomic Pi comes with an Intel Atom x5-Z8350 with Intel HD Graphics (Cherry Trail). There is 2 GB of DDR3L-16000, 16 GB of eMMC, and an SD slot for storage. Connectivity is a full HDMI port (primary audio out), USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports, a Mediatec RT5572 used for WiFi, a Qualcomm CSR8510 for Bluetooth 4.0, a “Legitimate licensed BIOS”, and a real-time clock.
It is available to buy from Digital loggers and Amazon
Major things I like on this pi as compared with RPi
- 9-axis inertial navigation sensor with compass BNO055
- Runs on 5V. Typically 4-15 watts. (so we do not use any TTL converters for sensors which are mostly 5v operated)
- it’ll run Win10 64 bit.
- Intel HD Graphics (Cherrytrail)
- Extra sound for media applications (add on power can be given to the unit) Advanced Linux Sound Architecture v: k4.15.0-42-generic
